We Are More

The literal meaning to the poem, "We Are More" is that Canadians are more than a handful of stereotypes. Although most stereotypes have a strong level of truth, there is so much more to us. Canada is a country full of inspiration, culture, innovation and hope. We as a country can pull together and achieve greatness.
To me this poem shows great power. It was written by a patriotic man with amazing innovation. It tells that we all have great potential and can shoot for the stars and achieve greatness. Our country can work together and make this the best country in the world, through strong cultural acceptance and some hope.
There is a very strong difference between reading this poem on paper and seeing Shane Koyczan present it at the 2010 Winter Olympics. When Koyczan presents it, he uses strong emotion to put great thoughts in your mind. The change of tempo and volume of his speech helps what he is saying interesting and really sync in. When he pauses, it draws you in and makes you anxious to what he will say next. When he raises his voice, it makes you really hear the importance of what he is saying.
